Is Cruze Farm Pizza Barn in Knoxville, TN worth the drive?

Looking for pizza in a vintage, down-home setting? Cruze Farm may be just the place for you. While the restaurant has four other locations outside of the pizza barn (though this is the only location that serves pizza), the successful farm is notorious for its assorted dairy products. But an equally-celebrated menu item is their pizza. With their pizza barn opening in 2018, it’s no wonder it and its ice cream has become a staple to the Knoxville area and a must-have stop for tourists.

Being one of the newer establishments in the area, the building does not lack the famous red and white gingham outfits that all the employees are seen strutting in, and the room feels like a healthy mixture of a diner and visiting Memaw’s house.

The food is nothing short of down-right delicious; complete with a thin crust, fresh toppings, and a flavor that makes you slap your mama. A little addition to the pizza that I thought was a neat touch was that they top the pizza with a little extra grated parmesan over the already-cooked pie. I’ve never been one to shake the little glass bottle sitting on my table, but if it’s a part of the experience, so be it!

The crust was a little lackluster. It certainly was not bad, but the crust was in need of some kind of flavor. I’m not saying every pizza has to be garlic induced or stuffed crust to the nines, but even a little extra salt can go a long way. To put it this way, I ate the fluffy parts, but I started to get tired and moved onto the next slice to keep my mouth interested. Definitely not bad crust, but could be better. The overall flavor, however, was so great. I went on a night that the farm was playing a drive-in movie, so lots of people arrived about an hour earlier to order their pies before showtime. Even with a busier crowd the pizza was as fresh as ever. The cheese was melty, the pepperoni was poppin’ — no complaints there.

Needless to say, I’d come back if I’m on that side of town. The atmosphere itself is a cozy hidden gem. The building across from the Pizza Barn is their permanent location for ice cream (which is great when it’s time for dessert!). Being able to look around a beautiful home while you nibble on freshly-churned ice cream certainly sounds like my idea of a good time. With the house and the barn side-by-side, it makes you feel like you’re exploring a little town. It’s a feast for both your eyes and your taste buds!
